Going to PvP for the 1st Time
GW is my 1st MMORPG, and I want to try everything the game has to offer. With that said, I've been getting that urge to participate in pvp battles. I've been reading all that I could find on builds and what to expect in pvp. I've gone to Zaishen Arena, and done some practice runs there.
My char is a W/E, unlike most of what I see there (W/Mo,W/Mes, or W/N). I think I'm above average in PvE, and I'd like to think I can make my char work in pvp (what can I say; I like to try the unconventional!)
Is there a reason why I dont see many (if any) W/E in pvp battles?

But W/E is THE most common warrior combo(well, maybe second most in 'uncompetetive' PvP). Not as common since the Gale nerf, but still very poular.
Anyway..an effective build for a W/E is:
Eviscerate
Executioner's Strike
Distracting Blow
Penetrating Blow
Shock
Sprint
Rez
Frenzy

Thanks:
I HAD been wondering about that for a while; I was wondering why there seem to be an overwhelming amount of W/Mo in PvE, and only a very few with other secondary professions. I asked one warrior, and he told me it was for self-healing purposes. It didn't seem that great an advantage to me, since he kept dying on this one mission (whereas, I didn't). I almost think that a warrior with a secondary monk profession has this idea that they become invincible, and always want to lead the charge (I have no problem with them leading), but then, within seconds, they're close to death (this isn't an isolated observation; I've seen this from ascalon to FOW).
Just wondering why there arent more warriors with a secondary profession that was NOT a monk.....

As a monk, I saw like ~25 (maybe more, maybe less) and only 1 could heal himself in an "efficient" way (he spammed heal breeze by using warriors endurance but he still needed us to stay alive).
So the secondary of a warrior isn't that inmportant at all in pve (except for farming)...

monk helps in farming...thats why i have mine as monk anyways. I usualy do W/E in pvp...if i even use my warrior lol. The reason no one has it in pvp as monk is because they will have a good monk w/ them to heal and they are there just to annoy the other monks

I'll stick to helping the OP...
Screw the other builds, stick with what YOU want cause a warrior can use any secondary if they ask and learn how...
W/E [non-earth] in my opinion should ALWAYS carry one Enchant Element skill with them. Why not? It can add 100+ dmg to your dps for only 10e. and 60s. duration. If the enemy strips it, GOOD, better you than your Boon Prot Monk!
Your element determines your elite usage and to a minor degree your weapon usage...
W/E Axe or Sword doesn't matter but if you're water build, I'd say go sword since Water Trident is REALLY too good to pass up and you won't need to rely on a speed buff to stick to your foe...
If you need to skill-lock [aka shut out] an enemy, axe > sword due to Disrupting Chop > Savage Slash...
Other than that, if you can hand me more info, I can see what skills you can start with and u can grow from there...
Tell me what weapon you want [if you want hammer, that's no problem either ^_^], what role you want to play, and if you have the right name use, I can slap it together right quick:
Defensive Tank [not good in pvp, at all]
Offensive Tank [high damage, low defense, containment a must]
etc....

GREAT thread. I too am a long-time PvE player looking to expand my PvP abilities, as well as increase my PvE DPS. I will be watching this thread, definitely! Started life as a W/Mo, but have experimented with all the other classes as secondaries. I have yet to find something that "feels right" either for PvE damage capability, or a non-competitive PvP fighter. I know there's no "universal build" that solves everything; I'm just feeling that I'm still coming up short in Mission groups, and that I'm not contributing what I could be to PvP groups.

W/Mo isn't always the best for farming, I use a w/me with physical/ele resist and other armor increasing spells which negates most attacks. And for whatever does get through, I use a condition-causing attack + epidemic + victory is mine. This averages an 150 point heal and +15 energy

My Setup is as follows:
Sword Weapon (usually req.10-11), and shield that gives me +31HP
Glad's Armor (AL +80; Energy 28)
Skill Bar:
Res Sig
Endure Pain
Warrior's Endurance
Conjure Lightning
Chain Lightning
Savage Slash
Seeking Blade
Griffon's Sweep
My weapon may change depending on the Ele skills I bring. In this case, I bring a shocking Longsword of Fortitude. if I bring Water skills, I bring an Icy fellblade of Fortitude. If I bring Fire skills, I bring a Fiery Dragon sword of (you guessed it) Fortitude.
Am I wrong in thinking about the extra health points? I'm trying to think that I am taking some pressure off of the monks if I can last a little longer on my own.
Should I look at other mods for my weapons? I prefer using swords (though if the consensus is that the axe or hammer is the better weapon in pvp, I'll consider saving what I collect my next time into fow). I look for the hilt to add extra damage to what my weapon can do.
Also, I'm just wondering if my whole approach is still (after someone has read this), based on "pve" thinking. It didnt take long for me to realize that pvp fighting is pretty different than what I do in pve.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated......

Just a quick thokught, I'd lose Endure Pain and replace it with the healing signet. The quick boost and then lose of hp can be a problem. Sprint or a snare like Hamstring is nice. My preference for a weapon mod is armor over fortitude, but there are arguments for fortitude since there's a lot of degen to deal with at times.

I didnt want to lose the armor that I would lose by using that Healing sig. Since I'm using Warrior's Endurance, I can't bring Defy Pain (though I did see a post here about Defy Pain vs. Endure Pain; I WISH we could bring 2 elite skills). As far as the mods go, I though health might serve me better (again, this might be the "pve" in me talking); I figured that might give me the chance to stay alive long enough for my monk to heal me when they can, and allow me to deal some decent damage in the meantime. In my current setup, I dont require the monk to keep a constant eye on me (I THINK).

As for weapon suffix, yes fortitude is the best overall in PvP. Some people believe that +armor is better because it continually reduces damage and therefore will prevent much more than 30hp of damage during a battle. This is true, but neglects to address an important point: as a warrior in PvP, some of the most dangerous threats to your health ignore armor, such as chaos/dark/light damage and degen from hexes/conditions. The +armor won't help you against these, while +hp will.

One I used to play alot, that I had fun with in the arenas:
1) Conjure Air
2) Hundred Blades
3) Garath
4) Final
5) Heal Sig
6) Watch Yoursel
7) Shock
8) Rez
Not completely original, but I enjoyed it!
